Magnolia District Woman’s Club Celebrates Two District Awards

The Woman’s Club of Cleveland had a very successful Magnolia District Spring Convention. Two club members received district awards. Phyllis Smith was made a District Life Member, having served over 25 years and two terms as President of the Cleveland club. Phyllis was Magnolia District Treasurer for five terms, a state committee chair three terms, and currently serves as District Chaplain. She is Chairman of the Austin Memorial Library Board, a member of the Cleveland Senior Citizens Board, and very active in Cleveland First United Methodist Church.
Claire Garrett was awarded the Magnolia District Outstanding Clubwoman Volunteer Award for 2006. Claire joined the Cleveland club in 1998, has served as President and Recording Secretary, and is currently in her second term as District Scholarship Chairman. She has volunteered at Austin Memorial Library for over 16 years, serves on the Library Board, and assists with the Bookmobile to Cleveland Senior Citizens Organization. Claire and her husband T. W. Garrett both volunteer extensively in the community, including sponsoring of the Cleveland Dairy Day Continuing Education Scholarship and scholarships for the Cleveland Campus of Kingwood College.

The Woman’s Club of Cleveland celebrated a very successful Magnolia District Convention in March with their State President. Magnolia District includes 18 clubs from the surrounding area, including Cleveland, Liberty, Dayton, Huntsville, Jasper, Silsbee, Woodville, Beaumont, Kirbyville, and Port Arthur. All the clubs are part of the Texas Federation of Women’s Club and the national General Federation of Women’s Clubs. This organization is dedicated to community service and volunteerism.
